I am part of the Central German Doctoral Program Economics (CGDE), I took courses and got certificates with grades from the program. PhD students from University of Leipzig are required to attend at least three of the courses provided by the program. Below are the courses I've attended with linked certificates.
Empirical Time Series Methods for Macroeconomic Analysis
Taught by Professor Luca Gambetti, PhD (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
October 4 - 7, 2016
The objective of the course was twofold. First, to present some of the most popular time series models designed to analyze the propagation mechanisms and measure the effects of macroeconomic shocks. In particular, it covered Structural Vector Autoregressive models as well as several extensions like the Factor Augmented VAR, Smooth Transition VAR, Threshold VAR and Time-varying Coefficients VAR. The second objective was to discuss some recent applications of these models in macroeconomics. The focus was on monetary and fiscal policy shocks, news shocks and technology shocks among others. I obtained 95 grade points on a given problem set. Certificate here.
Topics in Experimetrics
Taught by Professor Peter Moffatt (University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK)
June 7 - 9, 2016
The course covered a range of essential techniques within the subject of Experimetrics (the econometric analysis of data from economic experiments). The course commenced with some basic techniques relating to treatment testing, and progresses, through regression and multi-level modelling, discrete data models some of which require the ML routine in STATA, and mixture models, to consider some advanced techniques that are required in the estimation of structural economic parameters (e.g. risk aversion parameters; social preference parameters) from experimental data. Throughout the course, an emphasis was placed on the perennial issue of between-subject heterogeneity. Discrete heterogeneity was handled using the finite mixture modelling approach; continuous heterogeneity using the method of maximum simulated likelihood. All techniques were demonstrated using STATA programs. I passed the written exam and received the grade B. Certificate here.
Frontiers in Microeconomics
Taught by Professor Henrik Lando, PhD (Copenhagen Business School)
August 25 - 28, 2015
The course discussed aspects of modern contract theory in light of the development of behavioral theory and the incorporation of social preferences in many areas of contract theory. The students were asked to take active part in the discussions in class, and at times to present key ideas of the articles given. Thus, the course included presentations by every student. I passed the oral and written exam and received the grade A-. Certificate here.
Topics in Economics and Statistics
Taught by Professor Peren Arin
(Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, UAE and Centre fro Applied Macroeconimc Analysis, Canberra, Australia)
March 30 - April 02, 2015
This course was aimed to familiarize its participants with some commonly used empirical methods used in business-related subjects, particularly in economics and finance and the statistics /econometric software like STATA and E-Views. I took a written exam and got Note 2,0 (German grading system). Certificate here.
Bayesian Econometrics
Taught by Professor Crespo Cuaresma Jesus (Vienna University of Economics)
January 21 - 23, 2015
This course was aimed to familiarize students with the state of the art econometric methods with a focus on Bayesian Econometrics. I attended the course and didn't take the exam. Certificate here.
